My name is Sami. I like making machines do things.

My website is currently under re-design and I’m still migrating all my projects! Might be a bit sparce in the meantime.

Currently based in Dorset, UK.

Spend my evenings on the beach, working on my personal projects, travelling, and trying to pick up kitesurfing and sailing (badly).

Managed to stay on a board for a whole 30 seconds! WOOHOO

After my masters in Robotics Engineering, I spent several years working in Agritech, bouncing between software, hardware and managerial responsibilties.

Eventually, ended up as the principal robotics engineer/project engineer on all the R&D projects.

More recently, I’ve been focusing on innovative projects in the aerospace industry, working with complex electromechanical and software solutions - often with some sort of computer vision and almost always with at least some level of “machine intelligence”.

Though sometimes that’s just a codeword for “if sensor says x do y”

Project Management

Worked in a decent variety of companies, big and small. Hierarchal/Flat, Start-up/Corporate. Seen companies grow from 10 people in a shed to 100+ across 4 continents. Successfully delivered projects with budgets ranging from thousands to tens of millions of pounds.

Robotics and Automation

Mobile Robots have been my bread and butter, but recently been diving deeper into building fully automated cells and providing innovative automation solutions to manufacturing problems.

Computer vision and SLAM

Worked on a plethora of computer vision projects, mostly within robotics, doing real time vision processing and identification. Generally these systems would then feed into SLAM, using lidars, cameras, and other sensors to make autonomy happen.

Trying to come up with generalised solutions to specialised problems. Lots of papers doing really interesting things, and Im keen to apply them where I can!

Today, I’m a Robotics Project Engineer

Working with customers to understand their problems, and our engineers to make previously impossible tasks possible (and somehow within budget)

Super keen to collab on some projects, and take on some others if there’s an interesting challenge.

I’d love to hear what any of you are working on and maybe I can get involved!

Big fan of the hackspace attitude of collaboration, and don’t really know anything else
